Back in May, we hosted a workshop in Iceland, and we made the most of the trip by spending several days before the workshop driving around this amazing country + exploring with our good friends + travel buddies, Julie + Shane! We had all been to Iceland before together and wanted to make sure we hit some new places that we hadn’t gotten to see before — so we drove alllll over the Snaefellsnes Peninsula, went to Hotel Budir, visited Stykkisholmur (the Walter Mitty village from the movie!), roadtripped out past the Glacier Lagoon out to the eastern point of Iceland, Hofn to see the incredible mountains of Stokksness, saw the Dyrholaey arch and the basalt columns, and drove through Thingvellir National Park as well as spending a night in Reykjavik for lobster soup, crusty bread and of course an Ikea trip! (That was SO MANY Icelandic words in a row, sorry!! Haha!!!) The boys also did a polar bear plunge in the glacier lagoon – yes, they are insane. We followed up that night with some of the absolute best lobster pizza + glacier beer we’ve ever had, overlooking the almost-midnight sun til about 11 pm. We loved the drive out to Hofn and couldn’t recommend the little town more, or our amazing guesthouse! Iceland looked TOTALLY different in late April / early May than it had during the first week of September – mostly, it wasn’t as green and it still had snow in tons of places! One of the coolest things we did was hike up to a glacier, I feel like the scale of the photos doesn’t make it look that impressive, but we were far above it and the glacier ice was at least a hundred feet tall! We fall more in love with this wild, beautiful country every time we visit and can’t wait to be back in just a few short months.
